What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a talk-based treatment that helps individuals improve and sustain their mental health, relationships, and overall well-being.
It provides a safe, confidential space to explore thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and life experiences with a trained professional. At Daru Therapy Centre, psychotherapy is collaborative, compassionate, and rooted in evidence-based practices tailored to your goals.
Who can benefit from psychotherapy?
Anyone experiencing emotional distress, life challenges, or personal growth goals can benefit from psychotherapy.
Whether you're coping with anxiety, ADHD, grief, relationship issues, or feeling overwhelmed by change, therapy offers a structured, supportive process for healing and transformation.
What is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)?
SFBT is a future-focused, goal-oriented therapy that helps clients build solutions rather than dissect problems.
It’s based on the belief that clients hold the strengths and resources needed to create change. At Daru, SFBT conversations are hopeful, respectful, and focused on your preferred future — often effective in just a few sessions.
Can therapy help with ADHD?
Yes, therapy offers support, tools, and validation for individuals with ADHD — with or without a formal diagnosis.
Therapists at Daru work with clients to explore executive function challenges, improve emotional regulation, and foster self-compassion. Many also address co-occurring concerns like anxiety or burnout.
Note: Our therapists do not provide formal diagnoses or prescribe medication. However, we can support referrals for further assessment if needed.
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories.
It is especially effective for PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and distressing life events. EMDR is available at Daru both in person and through secure online sessions, delivered by trained practitioners in a calm, supportive environment.
What does couples therapy look like?
Couples therapy at Daru is a collaborative process focused on improving connection, communication, and understanding.
The therapist works with each partner and the couple as a unit, helping identify patterns, resolve conflict, and co-create a more fulfilling relationship.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes, research shows online therapy can be equally effective when delivered by a qualified professional.
Daru Therapy Centre offers secure phone and video sessions — ideal for clients seeking flexibility, accessibility, and the comfort of familiar surroundings.
What is nature-based therapy?
Nature-based therapy integrates the calming effects of the natural world into the therapeutic process.
At Daru, sessions may be held in a private outdoor space overlooking Dundas Conservation Area, offering a grounding, mindful alternative to indoor settings.
How long does therapy take?
The length of therapy depends on your goals, preferences, and the challenges you’re working through.
Some clients attend a few focused sessions; others prefer ongoing support. At Daru, we respect your pace — healing isn’t rushed, and every journey is unique.
What are your therapy fees?
Session fees at Daru Therapy Centre start at $100 and may vary depending on the therapist and session type.
Sessions may vary by therapist. We do offer affordable therapy options, we do have pro-bono spaces as well as sliding scale options and receipts are available for insurance claims. Receipts for insurance reimbursement are provided after payment for session.
Do I need a referral to start therapy?
No referral is needed — clients can self-refer at any time.
You’re welcome to reach out directly to book a consultation or learn more about which therapist might be the right fit for you.
What’s the difference between a psychotherapist, psychologist, and psychiatrist?
Psychotherapists (like those at Daru) are trained professionals who provide talk therapy to support mental health and well-being.
Psychologists can assess and diagnose mental health conditions and also offer therapy.
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in mental health and can prescribe medication.
All Daru therapists are registered or qualifying members of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and adhere to its ethical, legal, and clinical standards.
Is therapy at Daru inclusive and affirming?
Yes. Daru Therapy Centre is a safe, inclusive, and affirming space for all identities and lived experiences.
We honour diversity across gender, culture, neurotype, spirituality, and relationship structures. Our goal is to walk beside you with curiosity, care, and respect.
